NIMES
(25 minutes from the historic center): You can stroll through the heart of the city to visit the Arena, a Roman amphitheater, the Maison Carrée built during the same period, the only perfectly preserved temple in the world, and the Torre Magne, a belvedere overlooking the 18th-century fountain gardens adorned with vases and statues, which house the Temple of Diana. The ferias take place at Pentecost and in September, a major center for bullfighting. The Museum of Roman Civilization is a must-see.
THE CAMARGUE
The village of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is known as the "Capital of the Camargue." The summer season naturally lends itself to more events, to better satisfy the thousands of visitors. With nearly 40 kilometers of fine sandy beaches, swimming is an undeniable attraction.
ARLES
(20 minutes from the historic center): You can visit the Arena and the famous ancient theater. The painter Vincent van Gogh lived here for a long time, as evidenced by various places he painted. A museum is dedicated to him. The ferias take place in May and September, generally preceding those of Nîmes.
AVIGNON
((25 minutes from the city center): The Palace of the Popes and its gardens are one of the city's most iconic sites, located at the foot of the Pont Saint-Bénézet, Avignon's famous bridge. The theatre festival in July attracts thousands of visitors.
